Grenada is celebrating its 36th year of independence. It was on February 7, 1974 Premier Eric Gairy led Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique under a state of unrest, strikes and blackout into independence. For many years, the celebration of independence was not supported by all but 36 years later, and a new generation of nationals, the independence anniversary is proudly celebrated by nationals at home and abroad.

Haiti Faces $429 Million of External Debt to InterAmerican Development Bank, Other Debt Obligations Senator Urged Sec. Geithner for Debt Moratorium for Haiti in January.

Washington, DC – At the urging of U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner will announce U.S. support for a debt moratorium for Haiti at this weekend’s meeting of G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to help remove some of Haiti’s heavy financial burdens as it struggles to recover from a devastating set of earthquakes.
